From August 21-30, Copenhagen Cooking returns for ten days of food events with restaurants, chefs, producers and food organisations taking part across the city.

The festival has been running since 2004, and this year more than 100 experiences are on the programme. Among the familiar fixtures are Frederiksberg Harvest Festival and the Festival Grounds in Kødbyen, alongside smaller dinners, tastings and workshops around Copenhagen.

### This year’s theme: apples

This year’s main ingredient is the apple. At the University of Copenhagen’s so called Pometet collection alone, there are around 750 apple varieties, about 300 of them Danish and Copenhagen Cooking is using the festival to show that there is quite a bit more to the fruit than the few varieties most of us know from the supermarket.

That shows up in several events. BaneGaarden hosts an apple dessert table on August 23, while Aarstiderne and BaneGaarden dedicate a dinner to apples and the Danish summer on August 25\. There is even an official festival cider: Æblelyst, made with Nørrebro Bryghus from organic apple and pear juice.

### More from the programme

There is also a blind ice cream tasting with a twist, and on August 30, well known Danish TV cook and restaurateur Adam Price gives a Gastrootools masterclass at the Festival Grounds in Kødbyen. Later that day, guests can take a place on the judging panel in a burger competition featuring top chefs. Who wouldn’t want to be on that judging panel?

Each year, Copenhagen Cooking invites a guest region to take part in the festival. This year it is Istria, and several events will focus on the region’s food and culinary traditions.
