Each autumn, cultural institutions across Copenhagen and Frederiksberg stay open late for one of the city’s largest annual events. This year, Kulturnatten takes place on 9 October, with a packed programme featuring both well known attractions and venues that are rarely open to the public.

### Pro tip: Plan ahead, but not too much

A Kulturpas gives access to the participating venues and includes public transport in the relevant zones. This comes in very handy when the programme stretches across most of Copenhagen and your plans turn out to be a little too ambitious. Trust us, that can easily happen. Make a plan, but not one you have to stick to. You may find something more interesting just around the corner.

## **Our top picks for the night**

We have selected five events from this year’s programme that are definitely worth your time.

### Tour the inside of Langebro

Most people use Langebro to travel between the city centre and Amager. During Kulturnatten, it is possible to see the machinery beneath the road.

The current bridge was built in the 1950s. The tour includes its engine room, the chamber beneath the opening section and the equipment used to raise the bridge. It ends on one of the bridge piers overlooking Copenhagen Harbour.

There is space for 30 people on each tour.

### See *DA NIENTE* in the B&W halls

The former B&W shipyard halls on Refshaleøen will host the sound and light installation *DA NIENTE*.

The installation is based on a work composed by Gunner Møller Pedersen in 1977 and reinterpreted by sound artist SØS Gunver Ryberg. It combines electronic feedback with a 60-metre-high pendulum.

The work is presented by Båll & Brand in collaboration with Strøm and the Royal Danish Theatre.

The B&W halls have ceilings approximately 70 metres high and are normally closed to the public.

### Try Danish folk dancing

Live musicians and instructors will lead an evening of traditional Danish folk dancing at Union in Nørrebro.

The programme begins with sessions for families. Dancing and singing from 18.00 to 19.00 are aimed at children under eight, followed by a session for older children from 19.00 to 20.00.

From 20.00, the programme is intended for young people and adults. Visitors can take part in the dancing or listen to the music.

### Visit BIG’s headquarters

The famous Danish architecture studio BIG will open its headquarters in Nordhavn.

An exhibition marks 20 years of the studio’s work through models, drawings, films and projects from across Denmark. Architects will be present to talk about the projects and the work involved in developing a building from its first drawings to completion.

Guided tours of the headquarters are also available, but registration is required.

### Go behind the scenes at DR

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation, known as DR, will open its headquarters in Ørestad.

Visitors can see the studios used for radio and television and browse costumes, props and material from DR’s archives. Presenters will take part in the programme, and there will be activities for children.

DR is Denmark’s public-service broadcaster and produces news, radio, television and digital content. The event may therefore also serve as an introduction to an institution that plays a significant role in Danish media and public life.
