Latin rhythms take over Copenhagen
Popular rock cafe is about to be filled with cumbia grooves
As the first hints of spring begin to show in Copenhagen, warmer sounds are also finding their way onto the city’s music scene.
The Copenhagen based Cumbia Collective is bringing the sound of South America to Hard Rock Cafe with a night dedicated to cumbia, the dance driven genre that originated in Colombia and spread across Latin America in many local variations.
Built around percussion, bass and a distinctive rhythm, cumbia has deep roots in Latin American dance and street culture. Over time the genre has absorbed influences from rock, salsa and other styles, while keeping its characteristic rhythm at the centre.
Cumbia Collective mixes these traditions with modern influences, creating a sound shaped by both Latin American street culture and contemporary band energy. The group recently shared the stage in Copenhagen with the Argentine cumbia villera legends Pibes Chorros during their European tour.
At Hard Rock Cafe, the band will play a full set, turning the evening into a small slice of Latin American street party in the middle of Copenhagen, something a little different from the city’s usual nights out.
