What to do in Copenhagen this weekend
From local culture and rare pours to flea finds, design stops and Bach on Østerbro
It is Pentecost (Pinse) in Denmark, with Monday as a public holiday. This week’s guide moves from open-air culture and beer tastings to shared dinners, design finds, flea markets and a quiet concert to round it off.
Culture moves outside
Stjerner i Natten is a free open-air culture evening in Tårnby, Copenhagen’s neighbouring municipality, where local institutions and associations gather on Kalvebod Fælled with music, workshops, science, nature activities and things for children to try. The M1 metro takes you close to the area, making it an easy trip from the city.
The programme includes choir performances, circus, graphic printmaking, alpacas, rabbits, science experiments and community stands spread across the area.

Beer mayhem
Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen takes over the city with hundreds of beers poured by the breweries themselves.
The festival brings together international breweries for four sessions across two days, with a focus on unique, rare and experimental beers. It is made for beer nerds, curious drinkers and anyone who likes their tasting sessions with a party built in.

A small table trip to Argentina
La Periferia, the café at Kulturhuset Indre By, invites to an Argentinian night built around shared food and communal tables.
The dinner is served buffet style, with seasonal dishes made with ingredients from organic and biodynamic farms around Copenhagen. Seats are limited to 30, and booking is via lydiachristina@periferiacph.com. The price is 295 kr. per person, while children under the age of 3 eat for free.

Lake opening with a splash
A short trip from the city, Badesøen Albertslund offers an outdoor swimming lake with sandy areas, green space and room for a slower summer day.
This Saturday, the lake opens for the season with a family programme including free entry from 08.00 to 09.00, breakfast for the first 150 guests, activities with TrygFonden’s coastal lifeguards, free ice cream for children while supplies last, and a creative workshop with a book zone.
Later in the day, the lake hosts what they call the world’s best water fight, so bring water guns, buckets and people who do not mind getting wet.

Scandi design on tour
Cay Collective brings its first event tour to Copenhagen with an afternoon of handmade design, art, fashion, ceramics and interiors.
The online gallery works with independent creators from Scandinavia and Europe, and the Copenhagen stop gathers some of them for creative workshops, music, food, drinks, goodie bags and a chance to browse pieces outside the usual mass-produced design circuit.

Flea finds by the fælled
UN17 Village hosts a local spring flea market in Ørestad with around 30 tables of secondhand clothes, books, toys, homeware, handmade pieces and small finds.
The market takes place in Fælledhuset, part of the UN17 Village housing project, which is built around the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. There will also be coffee, tea and sweet things, so it works as a small Sunday stop rather than a full day plan.
UN17 Village sits close to Kalvebod Fælled, so you can combine the market with a walk in the nature area or by the nearby lakes.

Hotel pieces with a past
Guldsmeden Hotels opens its archive for a sale of interiors, furniture, décor and one-off pieces from its hotels.
Expect lamps, textiles, furniture and smaller interior details with the familiar Guldsmeden feel. The sale starts on 24 May and continues on 26, 27 and 28 May, though the best finds may go early.

Bach in the church room
Italian pianist Gianluca Luisi comes to Sankt Jakobs Kirke for a Pentecost concert built around Bach, Italian piano music and Carl Nielsen.
The programme moves between Danish and Italian traditions, ending with Nielsen’s Chaconne, which draws on Bach’s musical form. Danish pianist Elisabeth Holmegaard Nielsen also appears and introduces the audience to the programme.
