Heading to Musik i Lejet? Here’s what to know

The fields outside Vejby are about to fill up again. Before the first acts take the stage, here is a practical overview of what awaits, what to bring and what is worth knowing once you arrive.

Where and when?

Musik i Lejet takes place from Thursday 16 July to Saturday 18 July at Rågelejevej 37B in Vejby.

The festival site is open from 14.00 until 04.00 each day.

Despite its name, the festival is no longer held directly by the beach in Tisvildeleje. For the second year running, Vejby’s open fields provide the backdrop for the party.

Getting there

Take the S-train to Hillerød and change to the local train towards Tisvildeleje. Get off at Vejby Station.

From there, Musik i Lejet’s shuttle bus connects the festival site with Vejby, Rågeleje and Tisvildeleje. Buses run approximately every 30 minutes during the day and every 15 minutes from 17.30 until 04.30. A ticket costs DKK 15.

The journey from central Copenhagen takes around an hour and a half. Leave a little extra time and check the Danish travel planning site Rejseplanen before setting off.

Where to stay

You can book access and a tent pitch at the festival’s Ren & Rolig Camp if you haven’t already secured accommodation with one of Musik i Lejet’s local partners Sankt Helene or Hotel Bymose Hegn. Remember to check the shuttle bus schedule or bring a bike, as all of these locations are some distance from the festival.

Arriving by car

Driving instead? Free parking is available on the large field by Salgårdshøjvej, around 350 metres from the main entrance.

There is room for approximately 750 cars, but spaces are first come, first served. Sleeping in your car is not permitted.

Parking is prohibited on both the main roads leading to the festival and the smaller surrounding roads. Skip the hopeful search for a secret spot and head directly to the official parking area.

Who is playing?

The programme mixes some of Denmark’s biggest current artists with nostalgic favourites, DJs and up-and-coming Scandinavian names.

Thursday features URO, Poul Krebs, GNAGS, Mekdes and Benjamin Hav & Familien, followed by a late-night DJ set from Anton Westerlin.

Friday brings ICEKIID, Guldimund, Pil, Saveus and KESI.

On Saturday, Dodo & the Dodos open the main stage, followed later by Jonah Blacksmith, Burhan G, Christopher and Artigeardit.

The party continues at the smaller venues after the main stage concerts.

Come hungry

The food programme goes considerably further than the standard festival burger and fries. This year’s food programme brings together a wide range of Copenhagen favourites, with everything from Mexican and Italian dishes to burgers, bowls, Indian food and festival friendly comfort food.

Every food stall even has at least one vegetarian option.

What can you bring inside?

You cannot bring your own food or drinks onto the festival or camping site, although empty reusable water bottles are permitted.

Umbrellas, portable speakers, chairs, professional camera equipment and drones are also off the packing list. Large bags may be searched at the entrance.

In other words, pack light and leave the umbrella at home.

Prepare for rain

Friday and saturday currently looks set to bring clouds and showers, particularly later in the day and during the evening. Forecasts can change, but proper rainwear is a safer bet than festival optimism.

As umbrellas are not allowed inside, bring a rain jacket or poncho. Practical shoes are also highly recommended if the grass turns muddy.

The site stays open until 04.00, so an extra layer will probably come in handy too.

Store your belongings

Lockers can be booked for one day or the entire festival.

They measure 30 by 30 by 50 centimetres and are opened using a personal code sent by email and text message. Availability is limited, so booking ahead is a good idea if you would rather not carry your rainwear all night.

Take a break in the sauna

Need a reset between concerts? A new wellness area offers free sauna sessions and ice baths from 14.00 to 18.00 on all three festival days.

Participation is free when signing up for the organiser’s newsletter at the site. Bring swimwear and a towel, and perhaps avoid booking a session five minutes before your must-see act.
